New year, new lunch offerings at Ellie’s! We’re kicking off 2018 by bringing the flavors and colors of the New England winter to our menu, from light bites like the Squash Tartine amd Roasted Beet Salad to heartier fare like the Pastrami Sandwich on our new rye kaiser rolls!

To start us off, the Squash Toast is the newest variation on our seasonal tartine, drawing its inspiration from flavors on the December salad course. Creamy, roasted delicata squash meets fresh sage, tangy goat cheese, tart pickled cranberries, and salty toasted pistachios to create that perfect nosh for your morning or afternoon!

The Roasted Beet Salad introduces bright, fresh flavors that our palates may otherwise be lacking throughout the winter season. Beets are poached with oranges, sherry wine, and fresh thyme to both accentuate their natural sweetness and balance their earthiness. The result pairs wonderfully with freshly shaved fennel and sliced oranges. To contrast all of these bright flavors, the salad is then finished with salty roasted nicoise olives and toasted pistachios for a crunchy, savory, fatty accent.

Now, moving on to our sandwiches. Our Sweet and Sour Chicken Sandwich is a celebration of ingredients that we’ve loved for a while. Chicken thighs are slow-roasted with our signature “crack spice,” lemon, garlic, rosemary, and thyme until the meat reaches fall-off-the-bone-tender status. This is then topped with sweet, syrupy Peppadew pepper sauce and a crunchy, sweet-and-sour carrot and cabbage slaw that syncs perfectly with the salty, creamy American cheese that we’re melting over the entire thing! This sandwich is being served on a caramelized fennel and roasted garlic ciabatta that is absolutely delicious on its own, but contributes delicious savory notes and crunchiness to complete the experience.

Sweet and Sour Chicken – Baffoni chicken thighs, crack spice, sweet and sour cabbage slaw, American cheese, spicy sweet peppadew pepper sauce, caramelized fennel & garlic ciabatta

The Pastrami Sandwich is our spin on a classic NY-style pastrami sandwich on rye. We cure and smoke beef brisket in house, and season it with a spicy black pepper and brown sugar rub. The pastrami has notes of allspice, ginger, clove, and bay leaf, and the super flavorful brisket is balanced out by slices of creamy, nutty Swiss cheese. The classic complement to this sandwich is traditional spicy whole-grain, French pommery-style mustard, plus our homemade sauerkraut that we sauté with bacon and onion and finish with brown sugar for sweetness and sherry vinegar to bring out a bright and fruity depth of flavor.

Finally, for our veggies lovers we’re offering a Roasted Broccoli Sandwich that celebrates the roasted vegetables of this season! Broccoli takes on a delicious, savory flavor when roasted with olive oil, salt, and pepper, and Ricotta Salata makes the ideal light, milky cheese that melts perfectly over the broccoli. Our signature shallot jam provides the final touch to this sandwich for a sweet, caramelized onion flavor that balances the salty broccoli.
